The Iron Sheik, whose real name was Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, was a major figure in professional wrestling during his time in the ring. Born in Iran and a former bodyguard for Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, The Iron Sheik brought his own unique flare to the ring. His infamous feud with Hulk Hogan, culminating in his loss at Madison Square Garden in January 1984, marked the dawn of ‘Hulkamania,’ Hogan’s meteoric rise to fame.

Despite his loss to Hogan, The Iron Sheik had a successful career, capturing the WWE World Heavyweight title once and winning the Tag Team Championship once alongside Nikolai Volkoff. His contributions to the sport were recognized in 2005 when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
