Undefeated Russian PFL Star Credits Khabib Nurmagomedov For Shaping His Success: “It Was A Perfect Opportunity”

8 months ago By Jhon Woug

While every fighter has a distinctive tale of perseverance, Murad Ramazanov’s stands apart. This undefeated MMA veteran comes from the fight-savvy area of Dagestan and credits much of his triumph to none other than the esteemed Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Consider this: After retiring from MMA in October 2020, Khabib is still recognized as among the greatest fighters ever. He continues to shape the careers of his mentees, like Islam Makhachev, who happens to be a reigning UFC lightweight champion and childhood friend. Having recently moved from ONE Championship to the PFL MMA organisation, Murad Ramazanov commented on how Khabib has made an enduring impact on him throughout his journey so far.

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Ramazanov, who is 28 years old now, discussed his progression in the field of MMA and expressed intense fervor. He disclosed that he kicked off his journey into combat sports through Greco-Roman wrestling, which turned out to be instrumental in facilitating his shift towards mixed martial arts. Nonetheless, Khabib Nurmagomedov proved to be the pivotal factor behind catalysing an important changeover for him professionally.

Ramazanov shares the same Dagestani heritage as Khabib and Islam Makhachev, affording him a distinctive chance to train alongside Khabib while he rose to MMA eminence. Reminiscing about those developmental years, Ramazanov depicts them as “a remarkable source of inspiration” that greatly influenced his persona as an accomplished MMA combatant.

Ramazanov not only gained physical training but also cultivated mental strength during his time at Khabib’s fight camp. He learned the crucial lesson of focus, which was emphasized by the Dagestani fighter as essential for success in MMA. Ramazanov acknowledged concentration to be the most significant concept instilled in him at the gym and is now prepared to excel within this unforgiving industry.

As Khabib entered his prime, I recognised him as one of the elite. Fortunate to train alongside someone of his calibre, my daily focus was on mastering each submission perfectly without faltering so that every opportunity for growth could be seized upon and maximized. Through this process came significant motivation plus multiple lessons learned from others around me who had contributed greatly towards shaping the person before you today—much gratitude owed indeed!

Ramazanov’s words exude authenticity, reflecting the profound appreciation and admiration he has for his mentor and fellow training companions. Khabib’s rigorous methodology in preparation, coupled with his unparalleled triumphs inside the octagon, surely left an everlasting impression on the ambitious fighter.

Ramazanov made a notable switch from the ONE Championship to the Professional Fighters League (PFL) as part of his journey. He was motivated by the need for acknowledgement and prospects that match his triumphs against leading challengers. Being discontented with being denied a title shot in his prior association, Ramazanov desires to exhibit not only his renowned wrestling abilities but also continually advance striking capabilities in PFL.

As he enters a new phase, there is excitement about his possible appearance in the PFL’s league format, scheduled for 2024. Though his rival and precise debut date are undisclosed at present, it’s anticipated that the Makhachkala native, revered for being proficient across featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight disciplines, will likely participate in the welterweight category.

As Ramazanov’s story plays out within the PFL, Khabib Nurmagomedov, an undefeated UFC Hall of Famer boasting a record of 29-0, continues to leave his mark outside of his own fighting success. While it is doubtful that ‘The Eagle’ will return to compete in MMA, he steadfastly remains dedicated to fostering and honing the abilities of up-and-coming fighters.

Khabib splits his schedule between Dagestan, Russia’s Eagles MMA gym, and the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), located in San Jose, California, USA.

The journey of Murad Ramazanov perfectly exemplifies the interdependence between personal effort and mentorship in MMA. It highlights how mentors, such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, can significantly influence a fighter’s career path. As Ramazanov enters the PFL arena, he brings with him not only his abilities but also indispensable teachings acquired from one of the sport’s most prominent champions.

Not only are Khabib’s techniques being imparted to others, but his cultivated mindset is also resonating and transforming a promising athlete into an undefeated Russian PFL star.
