5 WWE Legends Who Never Faced John Cena

1 years ago By Jhon Woug

John Cena, a name synonymous with WWE, has left an indelible mark on the wrestling world. For over two decades, he’s been a cornerstone of the WWE, captivating audiences with his charisma and in-ring prowess. Throughout his illustrious career, Cena has shared the squared circle with numerous WWE Superstars, engaging in epic rivalries and unforgettable moments. However, there are a few WWE Legends who, astonishingly, never went one-on-one with the “Doctor of Thuganomics” in a singles match. Let’s delve into the world of WWE and explore the five legends who’ve yet to face John Cena in the ring.

When you think about the immense amount of time both John Cena and Kofi Kingston spent together in the WWE, it’s utterly bewildering that they never squared off in singles competition. Cena, the face of the company, and Kingston, who soared to prominence during the unforgettable “KofiMania” in 2019, seemed destined for a showdown. Yet, this showdown never came to fruition.

While they’ve crossed paths in tag team matches and battle royales, it’s singles action that remains a missed opportunity. The closest they came was in a Triple Threat match on January 11, 2010, where Randy Orton also participated. With their career trajectories likely on divergent paths, a one-on-one encounter between Cena and Kingston may remain a tantalising dream for WWE fans.

Samoa Joe, known for his hard-hitting style and intensity, is a notable omission from the list of WWE Superstars who’ve never faced John Cena one-on-one. Joe, who’s now serving as William Regal’s special enforcer on NXT, left a significant void in his WWE tenure by not clashing with Cena in a classic match. It’s baffling considering Joe’s matches against Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles.

The two powerhouses only shared the ring twice in WWE. The first was on August 21, 2017, when Cena teamed up with Roman Reigns to take on Joe and The Miz. The second time was at the 2017 Survivor Series, where they found themselves on opposing teams. Although a future showdown remains uncertain, the prospect of Cena returning to NXT to provoke Samoa Joe is indeed intriguing, albeit unlikely.

Bobby Roode, known for his smug, arrogant heel persona, is another WWE superstar who surprisingly never locked horns with John Cena. Despite not reaching main event status on WWE’s main roster, it’s perplexing that Cena never had a one-on-one encounter with Roode, especially when considering Cena’s matches against Elias and Baron Corbin.

Their only WWE interaction was as teammates representing Team SmackDown at the 2017 Survivor Series. To elevate himself back into the singles spotlight, Roode might need to separate from his tag team with Dolph Ziggler. Only then can fans hope for a showdown with John Cena, a dream match that could still become a reality.

Drew McIntyre, who has since risen to prominence as a top WWE Superstar, had an earlier WWE run where he was billed as the “Chosen One” and portrayed as an arrogant heel. Surprisingly, McIntyre never crossed paths with John Cena during this period. Although Cena’s limited in-ring appearances during that time can partly explain this, the absence of a Cena-McIntyre feud remains a missed opportunity.

Their paths did intersect in tag team action, with Cena and David Otunga defeating McIntyre and Cody Rhodes for the tag team titles. Furthermore, both Cena and McIntyre participated in a Fatal Four-Way match involving Finn Balor. Despite this, a singles encounter between the two didn’t materialize. McIntyre has expressed his desire to face Cena, and with his prominent position in WWE, there’s a real chance of this dream match happening down the line.

MVP, much like Kofi Kingston, is a WWE Superstar you’d assume had locked horns with John Cena at some point, given their shared WWE tenure. However, it’s astonishing that MVP and Cena never had a one-on-one match in WWE.

Despite encountering each other in Survivor Series matches, multi-man tag team bouts, battle royales, and Royal Rumbles, a singles clash eluded them. MVP, currently leading the Hurt Business, could potentially face Cena if he returns. Yet, it’s more likely Cena would target Bobby Lashley, who’s established himself as a dominant WWE Champion under MVP’s guidance.

John Cena’s legendary WWE career has been adorned with classic matches and fierce rivalries against some of the biggest names in wrestling history. However, the absence of singles encounters with these five WWE Legends is a perplexing chapter in his storied career.

While the wrestling world may continue to evolve, leaving room for exciting future matchups, the dreams of fans who’ve yearned to witness these battles remain unfulfilled. Whether or not these dream matches become a reality, the speculation and anticipation surrounding these potential showdowns will persist as a part of wrestling folklore.
